Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is a hands-on environmental education program in which K-12 students raise brook or rainbow trout from eggs to fingerlings in a chilled classroom tank, then release them into approved local streams. The program connects students to coldwater stream ecology, water chemistry, and watershed stewardship.The PA Council of Trout Unlimited coordinates TIC across the state, providing equipment grants, eggs from PA Fish and Boat Commission hatcheries, and curriculum support. Local TU chapters typically sponsor schools.Watershed groups can partner with schools to host stream releases, run watershed walks, and connect TIC programs to broader watershed protection messaging.
