EPA ECHO — Enforcement and Compliance History Online
Program Summary
Federal database providing compliance and enforcement data on regulated facilities including wastewater dischargers and stormwater permit holders.
Full Description
ECHO is the EPA's main public-facing database for compliance and enforcement information on regulated facilities. Users can search by facility name, location, watershed, or industry type to see permit information, monitoring reports, inspection results, and enforcement actions. For Clean Water Act facilities, ECHO includes NPDES permit effluent limits and DMR data. Watershed groups use ECHO to identify problematic dischargers, track compliance trends, and support citizen enforcement actions. The data is freely available and updated monthly. ECHO also offers mapping tools and data export for custom analysis. A tutorial series helps non-technical users navigate the database.
