Chesapeake Bay Trust Watershed Assistance Grant Program

Grants funding watershed restoration project design, permitting, and watershed planning in West Virginia's Chesapeake watershed and two Pennsylvania creek watersheds.

This program funds the earliest phases of watershed restoration so local governments and nonprofits can position themselves for later implementation funding, which is often the exact gap that stalls a good project. Type 1 project design supports BMPs such as bioretention cells, LID and green infrastructure stormwater practices, submerged gravel wetlands, and agricultural BMPs up to $100,000, or stream restoration, wetland and marsh creation, and living shorelines up to $150,000. Type 2 supports watershed planning and program development up to $75,000. Eligible geography covers all of Maryland, the West Virginia portion of the Chesapeake watershed, and the Octoraro Creek and Conowingo Creek watersheds in Chester and Lancaster Counties, Pennsylvania. Match is encouraged but not required.
