Chesapeake Urban Stormwater Professionals (CUSP) Free Training Program
Program Summary
A free two-course stormwater training program with optional CEUs, open to watershed group staff and volunteers, whose fall course registration closes September 27, 2026.
Full Description
The Chesapeake Urban Stormwater Professionals program is a free stormwater management training program from the Chesapeake Stormwater Network, made possible by grant funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. It is offered as two ten-session courses. Course 1, Science and Stormwater Practices, runs in summer and covers urban hydrology, pollutants of concern, and how common stormwater best management practices are designed, built, and maintained. Course 2, Stormwater Policy and Programs, runs in fall and covers the history of stormwater management in the Chesapeake, MS4 program management and the Chesapeake Bay TMDL, community engagement and public education, illicit discharge detection and elimination, erosion and sediment control, post-construction stormwater, municipal good housekeeping, and a session on grant writing to support stormwater goals. Sessions are virtual and run 12pm to 1pm, and participants can attend live or work through recordings asynchronously. Optional in-person stormwater tours, networking events, and a career symposium are offered. Continuing Education Credits and Professional Development Hours are available for a nominal fee through Morgan State University. Registration for the fall Stormwater Policy and Programs course closes September 27, 2026, with sessions running September 30 through October 28. Although the program is framed around the Chesapeake, the curriculum is directly useful to Pennsylvania watershed groups, municipal staff, and volunteers anywhere working on MS4 compliance and stormwater outreach.
