REHAB helps project sponsors rehabilitate aging dams reaching the end of their design life or failing to meet federal or state safety criteria and performance standards. NRCS has assisted local sponsors in constructing more than 11,850 dams since 1948, many of which are now past their intended service life. This is a distinct program from Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Operations and is directly relevant to the small flood-control dams scattered across Appalachian watersheds in PA, OH, and WV.
