Program Summary

An interactive Bureau of Reclamation dashboard and companion PDF calendar that map every WaterSMART funding opportunity, its timing, and past project selections in one place.

Full Description

Reclamation maintains two planning tools that make the sprawling WaterSMART program navigable. The WaterSMART Dashboard is an ArcGIS Experience application that lets users browse funding opportunities, filter by program and state, and view the 2,445 projects selected since 2010 representing $3.4 billion in WaterSMART funding leveraged against $8.96 billion in non-federal match. The companion WaterSMART Funding Opportunity Calendar is a downloadable PDF laying out when each notice of funding opportunity typically opens and closes across the fiscal year, which is the fastest way to plan a grant calendar twelve months ahead rather than reacting to each NOFO as it posts. Both are free and require no account. Note that most WaterSMART construction and efficiency programs are limited to the 17 western Reclamation states, but the Cooperative Watershed Management Program and Applied Science Grants have broader eligibility, so eastern watershed groups should confirm geographic eligibility per program rather than assuming exclusion. Reclamation also publishes the Tributary newsletter quarterly with program updates.
