Ohio River Valley Institute
Program Summary
Regional think tank researching and advocating for clean energy, environmental justice, and watershed-scale sustainable economic development in the Ohio River Valley.
Full Description
The Ohio River Valley Institute is a nonprofit research and policy organization focused on transitioning the Ohio River Valley from fossil fuel dependence toward sustainable prosperity. Its research has exposed the weak economic case for petrochemical buildout, documented abandoned well impacts on water quality, and quantified the public health costs of pipeline infrastructure. ORVI publications are widely cited by policymakers and journalists. Watershed advocates use ORVI research in permit comments, media engagement, and legislative testimony. The institute also hosts webinars, issues policy briefs, and maintains a researcher network across the four-state region. Its work is especially relevant to groups confronting shale gas impacts on groundwater and surface water.
