Program Summary
Pittsburgh-based Waterkeeper Alliance affiliate protecting the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers through monitoring, advocacy, and legal action.
Full Description
Three Rivers Waterkeeper is the Waterkeeper Alliance affiliate for the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio river systems in southwestern Pennsylvania. The organization conducts regular patrols of the rivers, investigates pollution incidents, files Clean Water Act citizen suits, and advocates on water quality issues affecting Pittsburgh and the broader region. The Riverkeeper is a full-time on-water role that maintains direct community connection. Community members can submit pollution tip reports through the website, request water monitoring for specific concerns, and join on-water events. Three Rivers Waterkeeper also runs an ambient monitoring program tracking water quality trends across the three rivers. The organization is an important voice on shale gas, pipeline, and industrial pollution issues.
