West Virginia Project WET (Water Education Today) Educator Workshops
Program Summary
Free water education workshops held across West Virginia for teachers, youth leaders, and water professionals, plus curriculum materials and the state's water festivals.
Full Description
Project WET is an international, interdisciplinary water science and education program, and West Virginia DEP runs the state's chapter as Water Education Today. Workshops are free and are conducted throughout the state for public and private school teachers, water resource professionals, youth club leaders, and anyone else who teaches about water. Participants leave with the Project WET curriculum guide and a set of tested, hands-on activities that map to classroom standards. The West Virginia program also runs a rain barrel and stormwater education effort, supports the statewide network of Water Festivals for elementary students, and sponsors the Wild and Wonderful Water Science Fair. For watershed groups doing school partnerships or community outreach, Project WET is a way to get credible curriculum and trained educators without building either from scratch, and the workshops are a reliable place to meet the teachers in a county who already care about water.
