Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC)
Program Summary
Interstate-federal compact commission managing the Delaware River basin's water resources across PA, NJ, NY, DE, and the federal government.
Full Description
DRBC is a unique regulatory and planning body created in 1961 to manage the Delaware River's water resources on a basin-wide basis. It sets water quality standards, regulates water withdrawals, issues permits for projects affecting the basin, and coordinates flood management. Pennsylvania groups working in the Delaware watershed must coordinate with DRBC for many types of projects. DRBC's staff provide technical assistance on water quality modeling, streamflow monitoring, and basin planning. The commission also maintains extensive data sets on river conditions, water use, and drought status. Its quarterly public meetings are open to stakeholders and a good venue for raising regional concerns.
