PA Master Watershed Steward Program

Penn State Extension program training volunteer watershed stewards to conduct outreach, monitoring, and restoration in their home counties.

The Penn State Master Watershed Steward Program trains volunteers to become local water quality experts who deliver education, monitoring, and stewardship services in their communities. Volunteers complete 40+ hours of training across topics like aquatic ecology, watershed hydrology, stormwater, and citizen science.The program operates in over 25 PA counties with active local chapters. Watershed groups can recruit Master Watershed Stewards as volunteers, partner on training, or refer interested community members to the program.This is one of the highest-leverage volunteer pipelines available in Pennsylvania for sustained watershed engagement.
