SRBC Consumptive Use Mitigation Grant Program
Program Summary
Competitive annual grant program awarding $4 to $6 million for projects that offset consumptive water use and build drought resilience across the Susquehanna River Basin.
Full Description
The Consumptive Use Mitigation Grant Program funds projects that mitigate consumptive water use or otherwise improve drought resilience in the Susquehanna River Basin, which covers most of central and northern Pennsylvania along with portions of New York and Maryland. SRBC anticipates awarding roughly $4 million to $6 million each year, with individual project awards typically $100,000 or more. Eligible project types have included water conservation and reuse, stormwater capture and recharge, quarry and reservoir storage, stream and riparian restoration, and other work that improves water availability during critical low flow periods. Since the first awards in 2022 the Commission has awarded more than $33 million across 99 projects, including 19 projects funded in the 2026 round. The program page was updated August 13, 2026 to note that the 2027 grant announcement and schedule are coming soon. For reference, the 2026 cycle opened November 3, 2025, held an information webinar November 20, 2025, and closed January 30, 2026, with awards announced in April and May 2026 and agreements executed in July and August. Applicants should join the SRBC grant mailing list to be notified when the 2027 round opens. Supporting materials on the program page include grant guidelines, a priority watersheds map, a groundwater recharge potential map, matching funds and landowner consent letter templates, and the AmpliFund grantee user guide.
