Program Summary

Federal-private partnership grant program supporting watershed protection in areas where water quality remains high, preventing impairment before it occurs.

Full Description

The Healthy Watersheds Consortium Grant Program is a unique partnership between NFWF, U.S. EPA, and the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities focused on protecting the integrity of healthy watersheds rather than restoring already-impaired ones. Funded activities include strategic land protection, watershed planning, source water protection, and durable governance structures. Applications are solicited annually. Projects should demonstrate clear threats to watershed integrity and credible plans to counter them. Partnerships between land trusts, water utilities, and watershed groups are particularly encouraged. Grants generally require a 25% non-federal match.
