Ohio AMLER — Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Program (FY2026)
Program Summary
Up to $10 million in federal AMLER funding for projects across Ohio's coal region that reclaim abandoned mine land and polluted waters while driving economic and community development.
Full Description
The Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization program channels federal Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement dollars to the Appalachian coal states for projects that reclaim abandoned mine lands and mine-polluted waters while producing measurable economic and community development benefits. Ohio's program is administered by the ODNR Division of Mineral Resources Management, which announced in July 2026 that up to $10 million was available for projects across the coal region of Ohio. For the FY2026 cycle, letters of intent were due through the Ohio AMLER Portal by August 7, 2026, and projects deemed eligible and invited to submit a full application must do so through the portal by September 25, 2026. Acid mine drainage abatement, stream and watershed restoration on mine-scarred land, and water supply projects tied to historic coal production are all within scope when paired with a development outcome. Pennsylvania runs a parallel AMLER program, already listed in the H2O Resource Library. NOTE FOR REVIEW: the FY2026 letter-of-intent window closed August 7, 2026, so this entry is forward-looking for the FY2027 cycle. Confirm current cycle status with ODNR before publishing, and consider whether to frame the entry around the annual program rather than the FY2026 dates.
