Program Summary

Mini-grant program offering up to $5,000 per project for community-based watershed improvement, restoration, and education work in the Susquehanna River Basin.

Full Description

The Stream and Watershed Enhancement Grant Program supports local organizations working on the health of waterways in the Susquehanna River Basin. It funds community-based environmental and water resource projects or events that improve, restore, or protect local watersheds. Past awards have covered an ADA-accessible boat launch, water trail signage, microplastics monitoring, water rescue equipment, pollinator meadows, youth education programming, and community gardens serving environmental justice neighborhoods. The program has run with a roughly $150,000 annual pool and an individual project cap of $5,000, meaning up to about 30 awards per round. Watershed groups, county and municipal governments, school districts, and nonprofit organizations are all eligible, and projects at the intersection of watershed support and environmental justice areas are prioritized. In its first two years the Commission awarded more than $300,000 to 68 projects. The grant is currently closed. SRBC states that it hopes to reopen the program in 2026 and will send notice when the next round opens. This is a strong fit for the small watershed groups in the H2O network that need modest, fast-turnaround funding, so it is worth tracking for the reopening announcement.
